Who we are
Mead Road Mardi Gras (MRMG) was founded by Oakhurst residents David and Emily Berg in 2005 as a way to bring the joy of Mardi Gras to their neighbors in Decatur. What started as a house party when their children were little has grown into a vibrant, non-profit, community-wide annual celebration.
Starting in 2014 the neighborhood party transformed into an annual fundraiser for the Decatur Education Foundation and has since raised more than $35,000 to support music and arts education for Decatur students.
Along the way the Bergs, with the help of dedicated neighbors, incorporated as a non-profit. MRMG continues to be a beloved parade through Oakhurst that ends at The Imperial for a festival-like after party. It is family-friendly and free to attend.
MRMG is managed by a board of local Decatur volunteers. You can learn more about them below.
