How to krewe
-
Register.
What’s a Krewe? Any group you want to parade with!
Gather your friends, your family, your school, your business, whoever!
Come up with a Krewe name and register with a contact person below.
-
Build.
Build your float.
We are a foot-powered parade, but beyond that, your float design has few limits. Repurpose your Mad Ave Derby car, decorate your e-bike, build up around a flat-bed trailer, or just walk as a group.
We encourage a theme, costumes, and the whole nine yards!
-
Throw.
Part of the fun of watching a parade is catching fun and surprising throws!
This year we are introducing a new category to our judging panel: Best Parade Throw!
Design and order early if you want to go the traditional Mardi Gras bead route.
Throw candy, parade cups, hats, toys, beads, stuffies…we’ve even had BBQ sandwiches!
Float Information
Designing a float for the Mead Road Mardi Gras Parade is all about creativity and fun! Start by considering the theme or message you want to celebrate, then think about how to bring that to life. You can upcycle old items like a wagon, stroller, or even your Mad Ave Derby car as the base, or get adventurous with a trailer or bike as your foundation. Cover it with colorful decorations, lights, streamers, or Mardi Gras beads—whatever helps tell your story. Don’t forget to add costumes and props to match your float’s theme and make it a memorable part of the parade! Whether you’re marching as a group or riding solo, the possibilities are endless. The more creative, the better!
Throw Information
Get ready to show your creativity because this year’s Mardi Gras parade is all about exciting throws! With our new judging category for “Best Parade Throw,” we want all Krewes to get imaginative! What fun or unique items can you throw to the crowd? Bring your best ideas! Whether it’s a cool handmade item or a themed throw that reflects your Krewe’s spirit, judges will be looking for creativity and that special touch that makes your throws stand out. So gather your glitter, glue, and anything that screams Mardi Gras magic—this year’s competition will be fierce and fun!
Judging Info
After a hiatus from judging and giving awards, we are excited to bring the parade awards back—bigger and better than ever! This year, our panel of judges will consist of 2-3 community members alongside a representative from the Mead Road Mardi Gras Board. The panel will evaluate participants based on creativity, theme representation, crowd engagement, and overall presentation across three categories: Best School Krewe, Best Overall Krewe, Best Float, and Best Parade Throw. Each entry will be carefully scored using a detailed rubric, ensuring that all participants have a fair and fun chance to shine. The energy, spirit, and creativity of your Krewe will make this year’s awards more exciting than ever!
